A work trip for my husband landed me in St. Petersburg Florida. I haven’t been here in years but a nice four star hotel called me!
I don’t usually talk about the history of a hotel, but this one has a fascinating one. This grand hotel was built in 1925. It had its grand hey day back then where aristocrats and celebrities frequented this fine establishment. During World War II it ended up being used for soldier barracks and steadily declined thereafter. The hotel was finally renovated in the 1990s to its former splendor. There’s a hallway in the hotel that describes the entire history.
We were located in the new tower so we had a gorgeous room with view of the harbor. The room was large with a nice balcony. The floor was all hard wood with an updated marble bathroom. It Felt very 5 star!
Since we were here out of season, the main restaurant, Marchand’s Bar and Grill, had a dinner special with a $25 three course tasting menu. It was fantastic. I was very happy!
The next morning I hit the gym and pool. All updated and renovated. Everything is clean and spacious and the pool area is nice with full service bar and restaurant, Paul’s Landing. I had a couple of great cocktails and fish tacos.
Overall, it’s a great luxury resort right at the heart of Downtown St. Petersburg. Loved it!
