If you are dying to visit the Boyne Valley, You might want to pass on this hotel. There’s not a lot of high end hotels in this area. The D Hotel is ranked as a four star luxury hotel on the river. It’s a three star hotel at best. And that’s being generous.
The lobby has the cheap modern look of Novotel or holiday inn. Check in was simple but there were no lines. If you have a car, you park in the pay lot next to the hotel and the hotel validates your parking.
The rooms have worn faded stained rugs. The beds are hard and thin, but it was cleanish. What does that mean? The sheets were clean but you can see no one has dusted the nooks and crannies of the room. Kinda gross. Another odd thing was my room came with a queen and a single bed. Not sure why.
The hotel is sandwiched between the river and the mall. I had a great view of a construction site.
Walls are thin. You can hear everything. Water temperature in the sink fluctuates every second, so great temperature and then scalding. Simply awful.
A high point of the hotel was the Hops bar. It’s a fun bar/restaurant attached to the hotel and mall. It has Live music and was recently refurbished. The atmosphere was very inviting. It was a highlight.
There are not many hotels in the surrounding area so this might be your only choice. It’s all right.
