The last night in Madrid we decided to stay in town. Usually I prefer to stay at a hotel near the airport but my friend really likes five star hotels. Plus we had stopped at Atocha train station so I thought why not.
The Melia Gran Fenix is located roughly 10 minutes from the Atocha train station in the Salamanca neighborhood. It was also roughly 15- 20 minutes to the airport. Both of those estimates were in an Uber.
The entry of the hotel has a grand staircase with red carpet that looked a little worn. The check in desk is on the right. Check in was quick and easy.
The AmEx price was double for this hotel on line. I was able to find it online for $240 a night. I thought that was reasonable.
The room had a nice balcony but it just overlooked the street. The room itself was longer rather than wider so it felt more cramped but it still had enough space. Beds were super soft and comfy.
The bathroom had the best shower on the trip. Hot and powerful. It had a heated towel rack as well along with full toiletries by Clarins. Very nice.
We went to the lounge for appetizers and cocktails. The price was expensive for 5 sangria drinks and two appetizers. 100 euro. Much too steep for Madrid. But the tomato and mozzarella was insane delicious.
Overall, I liked this hotel and would stay here if the price was right.
