Gallaghers Steak House in NYC

I think I just ate one of the best meals of my life. My continuing quest to eat at all the steakhouses in Manhattan landed me at Gallaghers.

I can’t say I was particularly looking forward to this meal. I’ve eaten at all of the most famous steakhouses and this one wasn’t at the top of my list. I kinda just went to continue the tradition.

Located near broadway on 52nd street. This was actually ranked number 48 of all restaurants in Manhattan. This iconic Restaurant has been around for over 90 years and still serves its steaks seared over hickory coals.

Upon entering you immediately see the freezer with all the aged beef. Very nice cuts of beef happening here. Then you enter the restaurant which is typical classic steakhouse decor, dark woods, a somewhat 50s gangster image comes to mind.

The menu is just as classic as the restaurant. All the classics like wedge salad, tomato and onions, French onion soup, etc.

I happened to come at lunch time which I think I will do from now on. What a savings on price! You get the same thing for half the price.

I started with a traditional cocktail suggested by my waiter Adam. I have never had one but he said it was as classic as the restaurant and the best In Manhattan.

I loved it. A sipping drink for gentlemen. Paired perfectly with my lunch.

They set the table with your traditional breads and butter. What made this different was 4 kinds of bread. From white to wheat to this amazing cake nut bread. It was like a coffee breakfast cake and I actually took it home with me. And I’ve never taken bread out of a restaurant.

My first course was a wedge salad. A rich creamy chunky blue cheese dressing with thick pieces of bacon. The tomatoes were ripe and room temperature. Overall an excellent salad with fantastic flavorful blue cheese dressing.

Next can my entree, a 10oz filet mignon paired with creamy mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Basically just the perfect meal. The steak was perfectly cooked, lean with no extra fat or tough pieces. The potatoes were rich and buttery and the creamed spinach had a nice consistency.

To finish I had to of course get the New York style cheesecake. A generous slice with graham cracker crust, whipped cream and strawberries in a sauce. Rich decadent delicious.

Overall, it was probably one of the best meals of my life. I have to go back!!

So next time you are in New York City or Las Vegas or Atlantic City check this place out for a fantastic meal!
