Hotel Rival in Stockholm Sweden

I found the Hotel Rival on Hotels Tonight app. This hotel was actually highly rated #11. I prefer the city center but this looked close enough. It’s a 10-15 minute walk to old town and major sights. This was more of a local area. A few bars and restaurants around. I just would have preferred closer.

I spent $154 for the room on hotels tonight app. When I arrived at the hotel, they offered me an upgrade to a deluxe room with immediate occupancy for an extra $30. I jumped on it just to go straight to my room to shower!

The room was very nice. Spacious, modern design, Wood floors and a large bathroom with a big balcony overlooking Mariatorget Square in the Sodermarm district. There’s a beautiful fountain, Thor Fishing, in the center. It was a cute trendy local area. Overall, an excellent room. After a shower (great water pressure), I headed out to sightsee for the day.

I had dinner at my hotel at the Bistro. I ordered from the bar menu and had a delicious cocktail and burger. It was great. Two cocktails and a burger cost roughly $55. I then headed to bed.

After a restful night sleep, I went to breakfast. The buffet was included in my price. Really nice buffet with an assortment of breads and pastries, fruits, cereals, cheese and meats, eggs bacon and meatballs. You could also order off the menu and it was all included. It was really good.

After I checked out, I decided to grab an Uber to airport. 500 sek ($55 usd) or 545 via cab. It was the same amount as my high speed train/taxi combo. Next time I would stay within walking distance of the central train station or take Uber from the start. Or maybe try the bus and subway if I really wanted to save money. I tend to avoid public transportation though when I haven’t slept all night. I can’t be as alert as I should.

I wish this hotel was located in the Old Town or in the Gamla Stan neighborhood. I would have recommended it then. But I just thought the location was inconvenient for what I wanted to see. And the extra cost to get here, I would have rather stayed in my preferred location and spent a little more.
